Trip #4g Fort Wilkins Historic State Park, MI (5-13 Sep 2017)

Exploring the Western Upper Peninsula (Copper Harbor Area)

Traveling across the UP with a stop in Marquette for a pair of jeans (forgot to them). Pretty typical drive of about 290 miles. Our stay in the state park and exploring the Copper Harbor proofed to be very different from Tahquamenon Falls. This areas has some of the best mountain biking in the entire UP. Also, we were camping between Lake Fanny Hooe and Lake Superior with Fort Wilkins historic settlement a short walk away. There was a very nice DISC golf course and many great location for morning evening dog hikes. We also got our first exposure to agate hunting alone the shoreline of Superior.

We had a feeling of that your at the end or beginning of the continental US (Horseshoe Harbor), and you kind-of are as US HWY 41 here and runs all the way down to Florida.

After the drive, we really just relax for a couple of days. Taking in the views during some short hikes with good views of both lakes. More so here you start to get a true sense of the size and power of Lake Superior.
